Canter's is an LA staple which large portions and a giant menu of options. While it is not kosher,it does offer items without meat or cheese for those who are not strictly observant. It has a comfortable, retro atmosphere inside. The service is traditional deli service, nothing amazing but gets the job done fast! If you love supporting a LA staple while enjoying a huge, yummy sandwich then this is the right place to go. My favorite part of Canters is the pickles on the side of every sandwich. YUUMM!

This was my first time visiting Canter's Deli and it lives up to the hype. My buddy and I arrived for lunch and the nostalgic vibes from the ambiance of the restaurant was so fun. We were seated quickly and I was surprised how fast our food arrived after ordering. I got the pastrami sandwich with fries and an appetizer of pickled tomatoes. I was disappointed with the tomatoes, they tasted off and didn't finish one of them. The pastrami sandwich was soooooooo delicious. I haven't had this good of pastrami since I was in Manhattan. The fries were pretty good, more like steak fries. I finished my lunch with a slice of cheesecake. The slice was more of a square but whatever shape they cut it didn't matter; it was one of the best cheesecakes I have ever eaten. If I could rate half stars I would give them a 4.5 but since that's not possible I'll settle down for a solid 4. Affordable and large quantities with quality taste. I'll definitely be coming back when I'm working in Los Angeles.

Retro it is! This iconic deli on Fairfax has been around for 100 years in LA and is the place to be! Not be missed! I went to a private event at Canter's and was able to make my own sandwich- delicious corn beef, pastrami, turkey, tuna salad, egg salad and added the fabulous bread that is baked on the premises. The rye and the challah bread was divine! Also the potato knish, potato pancakes. Didn't forget the coleslaw, potato salad, Russian dressing and eating this was quite the feat... and the matzo ball soup was a great addition. Finally, I couldn't resist the bakery items - the florentines, chocolate rugalah, almond cookies. Service was very prompt, our server was efficient and made us feel like we were part of the Canter's Family. 5 star experience!

We returned to Canter's over the weekend. It was not crowded at all, but we came during non-peak time. The owner was there and she brought us pickles. The food was great and we really enjoyed being in the ambiance. It has the old Hollywood feel inside and there is a lot of history in the walls. Our food came out quickly and the service was good. We'll be back again.

Canter's is back and we are so happy. It had shortened hours for a few years, but now many days are 24 hours. Not all yet, so call if you want to show up at 11:00 pm of after. The bakery is 24 hours. Canter's is a Jewish deli that has been on Fairfax for years. It used to be a Jewish neighborhood and still is, but has a lot of great Indian and Ethiopian food now around. Canter's will always just be the best in deli and fun. They have a small club next-door with live music for a separate fee. I think the tickets are sold on line. The bakery is wonderful. Fresh cookies, breads and all that you would want from a Jewish bakery. The service is great and fast. It is not cheap, but never was. You get that for which you pay. As to the eatery, it is just wonderful. It is old, not remolded and I hope it stays that way. It is always super clean. There are tables and booths, get a booth if you can. All of the food is great. We had a side of mac and cheese with bacon on top. It was great, loaded with cheddar cheese and cooked perfectly. Their pickles, which are free, are the best pickles you will have ever. They are large dill pickles cut in half. A must try. We moved onto eggs, bacon and pancakes. The eggs are not those super small ones that have a strange odor. They are medium and cooked perfectly. The pancakes are so fluffy and yummy. They don't need syrup, but do what makes you happy. The bacon is crisp. There is not one bad sandwich there. They are hugs and I doubt you will be able to finish one, but take home boxes are there for you. Their shakes and sodas are great, they have real Selzer water. The service is so nice. They are kind and happy to help you. They are fast and friendly. Parking is next door in their lot. They validate, but I don't know how much, we are always there when the guy has gone home so free. Go to the Fairfax area. If you are in LA, it is a must see and Canter's is a must stop.

Bigger restaurant than it looks from the outside. First visit so I stuck to the pastrami sandwich. The bakery you walk by at the front of the store looked incredible. Will try next visit. Service was attentive, and food for us both was delivered very fast. I wouldn't come back solely for a pastrami sandwich. It was good - don't get me wrong. It just wasn't fantastic. They have a parking lot with validation nearby. Next time it's the Rueben and some cookies!
